Candace Cameron Bure was destined to have embarrassing experiences as a young actress growing up in Hollywood.
The “Full House” veteran, who as DJ Tanner for eight seasons, told up about her first kiss with co-star Scott Curtis in front of a live studio audience on the set of the ’90s show in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.
“I remember it was very embarrassing in that I knew my parents were standing off to the side watching it,” said Bure, who on an episode called “13 Candles” in 1990 kissed Curtis’s character, Kevin Gwin. “200 people in your audience are observing you do this. You have producers, directors, camera people, other actors on the stage.
She said, “I remember I was just blushing, thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m about to have my first kiss at 13 years old,'” “Again, the act is not embarrassing; it’s just when you’re a teen that everything becomes embarrassing. Scott was very lovely, though, when he got cast. We absolutely loved each other and found great pleasure working with him. He was quite adorable. I so thought, OK, this will be good.”
Currently acting in a few movies for the Great American Family Christmas program, “A Christmas Less Traveled” and “Home Sweet Christmas,” Bure said the two never really kissed during rehearsals.
“And then it was like once we had to really tape the sequence, we went in for the peck, and yeah, I believe he was narrating a scenario where we were giving each other breath spray. I believe we were simply trying to be as lighthearted and entertaining about it as we could have, unwinding the tensions we both had. And it was just incredibly naive.
She said, “But I think about it now, even as a parent and thinking of my kids at 13 years old and like, oh my goodness, it really is embarrassing to have your first kiss in front of hundreds of people live and then knowing millions of people are going to view it.”
Last month, on the podcast “Full House” alums Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber’s “How Rude, Tanneritos!” Curtis went over his first kiss with Bure.
“I was thrilled to get the audition, and they had said that I was going to be Candace’s first kiss,” he added. “So, I took this very seriously when I walked in and did the table read with you folks first thing. I understood this was a significant event.
“Of course, you could feel the build-up occurring right across the week,” he said. “The night we filmed it, we actually had to get it with the audience and then without the audience since [‘Full House’ creator] Jeff Franklin wanted one take of the audience going, ‘Woooh.'”
Said Curtis, the moment truly strengthened the bond between the two young performers.
“After the two episodes, Candace and I started buddies,” he remarked. “We were laughing and having fun on the phone, chatting. She and I said, “We’ll see you at the wrap party,” the last thing we said to one another.
Bure discussed her relationship with her “Full House” cast members—John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Sweetin, Barber, and the late Bob Saget—early this year.
“Everyone of us is close friend. We stay in touch like this, always. When [the media labels] them reunions, I usually find myself laughing since I’m like, “We’re literally family hanging out,'” she told Fox News Digital. “but occasionally we do that publicly.”
Currently serving as the chief creative officer of the Great American Family Channel in 2022, Bure is carrying on her work of producing religious and family-based programs.
Her area of expertise is Thanksgiving!
” Honestly, it’s been 15 years of shooting Christmas content all year long, and so I’m so used to it,” said Bure, who stars in many Christmas movies during the 4th annual Great American Christmas franchise this season. “I feel like these Christmas movies define me. Making them truly makes me happy. Christmas makes me so happy, thus it seems rather normal at this point, fifteen years in, to be like, “Yeah, it’s Christmas 24/7.'”
“I truly do love our lineup on Great American Family Channel,” she said. “These are charming films. You have some really great musical Christmas movies with songs, and you have prince and princess movies. They’re very great, though. Then you’ll most likely grab the tissues for my movies.”
“So there’s quite the lineup, and I love all of the talent that we have. I want people to be entertained,” she remarked. “We have one for everyone; we want people to feel comfortable, laugh, be joyous and whatever makes them feel good about viewing these Christmas movies. We have them whether your preferred song and dance is this one or if you desire tears or laughter.”
